MP3.com.au is a cross between a music download service and a social networking tool for unsigned artists. It provides new artists with a forum for the music they produce and lets them promote it to a worldwide audience. It's a great web site for new music enthusiasts, but you won't be downloading the latest chart releases here.
The best thing about MP3.com.au is that it is completely free. If you want to upload your own content they provide free memberships for artists or audience. Artists can create a profile to display their music and gig dates, while audience members can post reviews, photos and general comments about the music they are interested in. If you don't want to sign up at all you can still download or
stream music from the site all for free.
MP3.com.au provides a handy Flash based music player so that you can stream tracks directly from the web site and create online playlists. Downloading songs is as simple as clicking the link and selecting save as you would with any file. This means that anyone using any browser can download tunes from the site, and anyone with Flash installed can use the music player.
The web site itself is very well designed and organised, with loads of features that we don't have space to go on about here. Basically, imagine all the things you would expect from a music download service and from a social networking service, multiply them together, add 10 and you will be somewhere near what the site offers. It's all really easy to use too.
The site is also full of content. Some of which is user generated, but much of which is written by the team of editorial staff. That's not to mention the integrated gig guide which you can look up to see if your favourite unsigned artist is playing anywhere near you any time soon.
MP3.com.au is not the type of place you will find the latest top 40 releases and isn't interested in being. Here, you will find loads of great new unsigned artists, or even a platform for your own music. Best of all everything is free so we couldn't recommend it more. If you feel like giving some new artists a try you won't find many better places than this.
